Hey undergrads and stylish at heart, as we count down to 2014, I want to welcome you to Musical Stylings, a new post series here at The Undergrad Style File. I will feature a new stylish song each week, to show that fashion inspiration cane be pulled from anywhere, from a beat to a set of song lyrics. For the first post, I went with one of the classics, "Fever" by Peggy Lee. Picture a smoky jazz club and slinky dancing, in it Peggy Lee croons about the feeling you get when you can't quite explain a certain connection between you and someone else. There's no cure for it, everybody's got the fever!
"Life is short. Dress like you're going to make a first impression every day."- Me
About Me
- Tiffany Lashai Curtis
- College Student. Sometimes dancer. Aspiring fashion journalist and everyday style enthusiast. I started my blog back in 2010 on a whim, and now it has grown into the visual representation of the power that I believe fashion can have. It's not about having clothes it's about what you do with them, what you wear says who you are. Fashion is transformative, and a chic bag or outfit puts a smile on my face as much as a good book on a rainy day. My blog is about dressing the undergrad and young professional, because so little markets cater to our style. You've officially been accepted into The Undergrad Style File. Sweater Weather
Hey undergrads, I hope you're trimming the tree and watching the Home Alone movies for the 20th time like me. When you're sipping hot chocolate with fluffy, drenched marshmallows or running out for last minute Christmas shopping, you want an outfit that is stylishly lazy. Get in with the oversize printed sweater trend with a chic, cream and navy blue Aztec print. Pair it with leggings and a long tank (p.s. leggings are not pants, but I won't tell if you don't). Top it off with cozy boot socks and rugged brown combat boots, which I am still on the hunt for. Add a gold chevron arrow necklace for visual interest and have a cozy chic day!

Fall Fever

Hey undergrads and fashionable people! I've been gone from the blog for awhile but I
promise it's because I have fierce, fashionable projects in the works. In the mean time...
here's my top three picks of what I'm craving for fall. Leather, leather, leather!
In boots, jackets, cuffs, and on bags, I love anything leather ( or a good faux),
it's such a tough accent and can make you instantly feel more sleek.
I've been wary of cheetah/leopard print for years but now I'm ready to
face my wild side, so to speak. I'm taking it in small doses, with accessories,
a great leopard print shoe or infinity scarf is perfect for fall.
I love ankle booties, fringe is a fresh update on a classic silhouette, and
adds a bit of boho to any look.
What are your top picks for fall?

Keeping It Classy: Leggings As Pants
On this week's post I'm tackling the trend that plagues undergrads and young fashion-lovers alike. The dreaded "leggings-as-pants" hysteria, we've all seen it, and probably don't want to admit that we've done it. Fine, I admit it! When you have 6 classes a week, a job, and a life, fashion tends to fall by the wayside in college. So you roll out from under your mattress, throw on a hoodie and your comfy cotton leggings, in black of course. Meanwhile, these leggings tend to leave little to the imagination. Leggings are meant to complement a longer shirt, tunic, or dress. If you wouldn't wear pantyhose with just a t-shirt, think about that when you reach for the trusty black leggings. Ready to class it up? Opt for a longer shirt, like the hi-low hem t-shirt featured above. Riding boots elongate the leg-line and add a chic element. A boyfriend cardigan adds extra back-coverage. Belt the cardigan to polish the look, add pearl studs and a turquoise bubble necklace for some punch. The final look is perfect for a "lazy day" of classes in the Fall.

Keeping It Classy: Sassy Short-shorts

Hey, undergrads and young fashionable ones. On this week's post I'm tackling the dreaded short-short. It comes in denim and all colors of the rainbow. On smaller frames they can be chic and showcase a good set of gams, but if you're like most of the population, you're body is home to a little more curve. It seems that the most popular stores forget that not everyone wants a short-short in the summer heat. So what do you do when the barely-there bottoms are all you can find? In the above outfit, I've taken a classically short, denim-short and turned it from too-much-cheek to street chic. I chose a black denim pair of shorts, almost everything looks chic when it's the color black. Add a blush pink, layered tank with a matching blush thong sandal. Top it off with some dual-toned small drop earrings and an owl necklace. I have a thing for owl jewelry. Don't judge me. And there you have another tacky fashion-faux paus transformed into a classy get-up. Don't forget the classic cat-eye sunnies. :)
